We certainly live in an age where modern technology is never ceasing and one would think that with all the conveniences that it brings that we would have a whole lot of extra time for ourselves. Yet when you look at the lifestyles that so many of us lead there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything we would like to.
Part of the problem just may be that we have formed the attitude that there is never enough. Our businesses are so automated that in many ways it really can scale up the bottom line, but that’s not enough. We have the modern technology that allows us to contact almost anyone, anywhere at any time yet we wait with baited breath for the next Smartphone to hit the market.
With the technology that we have in the workplace one would think that when we walked out of the office doors at 5 PM we could be most pleased at the day’s productivity and then forget about it. Time to go home and enjoy our family and friends. However, most walk out of the office doors with their laptops in hand which they immediately plug in as soon as they enter the house. Just leaving it long enough to maybe change into some casual clothes so one is more comfortable while they do another 3 or 4 hours of business.
Maybe it’s time to take a deep breath and become technology savvy. Instead of looking at it as a way to get more done in a shorter period of time, look at it as a way to get things done that really need to so we can spend more time on ourselves. What we also forget is that while all the gadgets that we have are built for longevity the human body has its breaking point. It’s called burn out and it’s becoming a household world.
As humans we are very smart but perhaps we are out smarting ourselves. By focusing on not only what technology can do to help us get ahead in life we should be looking at it as ways to enhance our lives by using the free time it gives us for better uses.
It would be most interesting if we could go back fifty or a hundred years to see what those living in that day of age would do with the free time that the technology of today actually does give us if we took proper advantage of it.
