Adjusting To the CRA Technology

Whether we like it or not technology is here to stay and almost everyone when it comes to their taxes is now going to have to develop some skills when it comes to automation and the government.   The CRA is aggressively promoting their automation tactics that they are now using.   The automation comes in many different forms and you are going to be hearing a lot about the E–services when it comes to the CRA.

We are in the tax season and it is time to file your income taxes and if you want to make this a really simple procedure and experienced then you would be wise to choose a quality accountantto do your taxes for you.   If not then you are going to have to familiarize yourself with the net file although you still can do a paper filing. You are going to find that the response and procedures much lower than it has been in the past when it comes to getting your notice of assessments and other data from the CRA when using the old methods.

What Net File is, it’s an electronic tax filing service.   You can do your taxes from the years 2013, 2014 and 2015 through this system.   The CRA is promoting this as having many benefits which are a way of being able to file your return directly and you don’t need to upload your tax file.   They are saying that refunds are usually issued faster especially if you are going to use direct deposit.   They are also saying that there is less likely to be errors on the part of CRA because they don’t need to re-enter the information from your refund return.   Plus, you don’t have to send in receipts; however it is extremely important that you keep these.   The CRA is also pointing out that this is a secure way of doing your taxes and your information is well protected.

There is also another form of automation called “auto fill my return”. In order to use this you have to be registered for your My Account and also select a net file certified software.    When you do this then various parts of your tax return will automatically be filled in.   This will come from your my account data.

Aside from these tax return automation services you will find that a lot of the inquiries will now be handled through automated systems.   Whether you like it or not the world of technology is moving into your personal life when it comes to your taxes and you really need to get used to it.
